ANDREW SHAPIRO merges popular and classical sensibilities, "blending the minimalist influence of Philip Glass with the moody pop sensibility of '80s New Wave" (New Music Box magazine).

Shapiro's solo piano album, Numbers, Colors and People (2009), was produced by longtime Philip Glass musical director Michael Riesman culminating in two joint-performances with Riesman on the prestigious Wordless Music series at Le Poisson Rouge (New York).

His second EP Quiet Kissing (2006) is an eclectic mixture of neo-'80s pop and longing ambient textures, while Shapiro's recording debut, Invisible Days (2003), was named one of the "Top 12" independently produced recordings of the year by Performing Songwriter magazine.

Shapiro's music has been heard on radio throughout North America and Europe, and has been featured by trendsetting host Chris Douridas on KCRW Radio (Los Angeles) and by music critic Alex Ross in The New Yorker.

He regularly composes for notable film and theater projects and also performs his solo piano music at McDonald's in downtown Manhattan Sundays throughout the year. He received an extensive profile in the Sunday New York Times headlined "Quarter Pounder With Keys" and was featured as the "Best Pianist in a Fast-Food Restaurant" in the "Best of New York" issue of the Village Voice.

In 2010, Shapiro made his debut performance at The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts (Washington, D.C.). Other recent performances include the Exit Festival (Serbia), TEDx Krakow (a TED Conference), Gracie Mansion, and Bard College.

Shapiro graduated from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music with a degree in musical composition. Raised in Larchmont, NY, he currently lives in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
