TWO PIANO PIECES
… Das 2009 erschienene Album Numbers, Colors And People (aufgenommen an einem Tag im Studio von Philip Glass) bestand aus Instrumentalklavier mit einem Soft-Pedal-Stil, der sein Markenzeichen werden sollte. Eine wahrhaft ambiente Arbeit, die zeigte, wie weit das amerikanische Ambient seit den Tagen von La Monte Young oder George Winston von Windham Hill gekommen war. Obwohl weder Avantgarde noch Schlaflosigkeit, hat die Musik den ganzen Reichtum von Debussy und Satie, gepaart mit der kristallklaren Produktion von Michael Riesman und dem Mastering von Michel Geiss. Es ist nicht nur der Ort, um mit Shapiros Oeuvre zu beginnen, sondern enthält auch die klassischen Tracks Quiet Kissing und Mint Green. Letzterer ist erstaunlich erfolgreich im Internet und als Musikthema dessen Ursprung. …the 2009 album Numbers, Colors And People (recorded in one day at Philip Glass’s studio) was all instrumental piano with a soft-pedal style that would become his trademark. A truly Ambient work, it showed how far American Ambient had come since the days of La Monte Young or Windham Hill’s George Winston. While neither avant-garde or soporific, the music has all the richness of Debussy and Satie coupled with the crystal clear production of Michael Riesman and mastering of Michel Geiss. Not only is it the place to start with Shapiro’s oeuvre, it also contains the classic tracks Quiet Kissing and Mint Green. The latter’s astonishing success on the Internet and as theme music belies its origins.
